Body Feminisation

Body feminisation adapts the body to the female gender with techniques planned for each patient, such as breast implants, high-definition liposuction and gluteoplasty. It is intended for trans women. The surgical plan begins by identifying the patient's body shape.

Chest Feminisation

Chest Feminisation

Chest feminisation involves adapting the chest to a more feminine shape, usually by inserting silicone implants and with liposuction. It is the surgery most frequently performed among trans women.

In chest feminisation, as well as breast implants, liposuction of specific areas of the chest, such as the underarm and side areas, and placing this fat around the implants is essential for a good aesthetic outcome and a feminine appearance. Stitching the muscles to stop the implants from separating (an internal bra), which would cause the unwanted effect of widely spaced breasts, is also necessary.

Inframammary Access

This is done through a small incision in the fold beneath the future breast, called the inframammary fold. The scar is fine, about 5 centimetres long, and is easily hidden within this fold.

The advantage of this type of incision is more direct, wider access, which allows larger implants to be inserted more precisely and more easily in relation to the pectoral muscle.

Under the Muscle (Submuscular)

In this case, the implants are positioned beneath the pectoral muscles. Unlike cisgender women, trans women should preferably have their silicone implants placed under the pectoral muscle.

This choice is made because there is little breast tissue in the area, even after hormone therapy. The muscle provides additional tissue cover for the implants, which gives a more natural breast appearance and reduces the risk of capsular contracture.

High-Definition Liposuction

High-Definition Liposuction
High-Definition Liposuction

These are advanced liposuction techniques that use small vibrating cannulas to break down fat cells and sculpt a contour suited to the patient's muscles. We can carefully sculpt the anatomical contours, abdominal muscles and waist, enhancing hollows and curves to give the patient a more feminine appearance.

Female (Oestrogenic) Body Characteristics

A greater proportion of fat deposited around the buttocks and hips
Wider pelvic cavities
10% more body fat compared with male body shapes
A different waist-to-hip ratio
Buttocks with a rounder, 'fuller' shape
There are techniques that can help to change the body contour of trans women. The first step is to identify the patient's body shape; after that, we will define a surgical plan that may involve:
  • High-definition liposuction to sculpt anatomical contours
  • Definition of the abdominal muscles and waist
  • Fat grafting (fat transfer) to the hips and buttocks
  • Enhancing feminine curves with personalised contouring
Buttock Augmentation: Gluteoplasty

Buttock Augmentation: Gluteoplasty

The buttocks play an important part in how the female gender is perceived and, together with the breasts, can be seen as symbols of femininity and key points in body feminisation. Depending on their shape, the buttocks can be reshaped with grafts of fat taken from the trans patient's own body (abdomen, back, arms, etc.) or given more projection with implants.

  • Fat grafted from the patient's own body (abdomen, back, arms)
  • Silicone implants when indicated

Frequently asked questions

Why are breast implants placed under the muscle in trans women?

Because there is little breast tissue in the area, even after hormone therapy. The pectoral muscle gives the implant extra cover, which leads to a more natural breast appearance and reduces the risk of capsular contracture.

What is the inframammary incision like?

It is an incision of about 5 centimetres in the fold beneath the future breast, where the scar stays hidden. It gives more direct and wider access for positioning the implant.

What is high-definition liposuction?

It is a group of liposuction techniques that use small vibrating cannulas to sculpt anatomical contours, abdominal muscles and the waist, enhancing the hollows and curves of the body.

How can the buttocks be enlarged?

With grafts of fat taken from the patient's own body (abdomen, back, arms) or with silicone implants, when indicated.
